Cycle Sanpete just launched an incentive program. It is an opportunity for businesses to sponsor bicycle rides in exchange for a promotional media package. Our vision for this program is to motivate individuals to ride their bicycles to daily destinations, particularly places like cafes, drink shacks, and restaurants. This initiative not only promotes physical activity and reduces traffic but also supports our local food industry. In collaboration with select locations, participants become eligible for complimentary drinks, snacks, and more, simply by biking to these venues.
With the courtesy of Keith Kasperson from the Majesty Real Estate Group, you can now enjoy a FREE SINGLE SCOOP of ice cream at the Mt. Pleasant Mercantile on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1-5 pm if you ride your bike over!

Can you tell us a little about yourself and your connection to cycling and Sanpete County?
I was born and raised in Utah County and have always loved the mountains and being outdoors in ALL seasons! My top priority is my family. I've been married for 21 years, and my wife and I have 7 kids, all boys except for one ;-). My wife and I both graduated from BYU Provo with formal training in Engineering and Business. I'm a Real Estate Consultant and work with people from all walks of life to buy and sell real estate for personal and investing purposes. In my humble opinion, I've been an avid cyclist for 8 years. I love Mountain Biking and Road Biking and have been connected to Sanpete in one way or another for 5 years and am grateful for all the work that has been put in by others that I get to enjoy.
What motivated you to support the incentive program, and how do you think it benefits the community?
Anyone who rides trails is benefiting from the love and sacrifice of others who built them. I've always felt a desire and duty to give back where I can. Cycle Sanpete has successfully championed the benefits of cycling to Sanpete County and its cities, and continues to grow those benefits and opportunities, and I'm happy to participate in their efforts. The incentive program poses a great opportunity for me and my business to be involved financially and give time where possible.
How do you envision cycling becoming a natural way of life in Sanpete County, and why is that important to you?
Transportation builds autonomy. Cycling is a cost-effective, environmentally friendly means of transportation. It doesn't require gas or insurance ;-). It also provides fitness and enhances mental and emotional health. As Sanpete County makes its connecting roads safer for cyclists and connects more networks of trails, the popularity of cycling will continue to grow and become a more viable form of transportation for youth, adults, and seniors.
Are there specific bike paths or cycling initiatives in Sanpete County that you're particularly excited about or would like to see improved?
I'm especially excited about the work underway by Cycle Sanpete to design and build a protected 2-lane bike path from Fairview to Gunnison. This would make all of Sanpete County safely accessible by bike. The benefits will be seen, and I'm certain more excitement, support, and enhancements in the County, and even connections to other counties will follow. I'm also excited about the continued development of the Ephraim Canyon and Manti West mountain bike trail systems and hope that the few trails up Fairview Canyon develop into similarly awesome trail networks.
How has cycling positively impacted your physical and mental well-being, and how do you think it can have a similar effect on others in Sanpete County?
A new study published earlier this year demonstrates the value of cycling for mental health: "Physical activity is 1.5 times more effective at reducing mild-to-moderate symptoms of depression, psychological stress, and anxiety than medication or cognitive behavior therapy." (Singh B, Olds T, Curtis R, et al. Effectiveness of physical activity interventions for improving depression, anxiety, and distress: an overview of systematic reviews. British Journal of Sports Medicine 2023;57:1203-1209) Cycling has helped me stay in better physical and mental shape for years. My wife will remind me when I "need to go on a bike ride" for the benefit of the rest of our family ;-) It is also less expensive than medication and cognitive behavior therapy.
How can the local community become more involved in promoting cycling and supporting initiatives like Cycle Sanpete?
Attend and support events planned by Cycle Sanpete, or plan your own. Ride your bike whenever possible as a use of effective transportation. Share the joys of those experiences with friends and on social media.
Finally, what's your favorite flavor of ice cream?
